This is a cost effective solution for adapting your new Mini-DisplayPort equipped laptop to your current display with HDMI input - HDTV, Projector, Mini-DisplayPort is a miniaturized version of DisplayPort, the newest digital display interface developed by the Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA). Most newer Macbook series laptops come equipped with the Mini DisplayPort interface for external video displays. Please check your laptop to make sure it has the Mini DisplayPort connection. *NOTE* AUDIO: This adapter will support audio only if your source device allows audio output through the Mini DisplayPorts interface. 5 out of 5 stars Great for MacBook   March 10, 2010
Paul Corlatan (Santa Barbara, CA USA)
I recently upgraded my TV and the new one has an HDMI input so I immediately wanted an adapter for my MacBook so I could watch HD movies. I found this one here on Amazon and bought it. When it came I hooked it up and it worked right away. I would caution anyone to make sure your laptop has Mini DisplayPort instead of, say, mini DVI. I know a couple of people who ordered the wrong adapter which couldn't been avoided with a quick Google search.

One point to note is that this does not transfer sound (as far as I know) so I use a computer sound system for my movies. Having an extra wire isn't a big inconvenience for me.

Overall I'd definitely recommend this adapter for anyone with a MacBook [Pro] with Mini DisplayPort.

5 out of 5 stars MBP to HDTV=Perfect   March 5, 2010

I bought this to hook my MBP to my LCD TV and it works perfect. Good quality and looks good to. Doesn't feel cheap.

5 out of 5 stars Works very well once you find the key.   March 2, 2010
Christopher Sean Hilton (Milford, CT USA)
If you need to connect a Mini Displayport computer to an HDMI Display, this is your device. Just be aware that you may have some configuration to do on both sides.

In my initial review I called this product a disappointment because I could not get a good signal from my computer to the HDMI port of my Samsung 2333HD Display. I was careful in my original text to say I didn't know where the blame lay. It turns out that not assigning blame was prudent and I should have done a little more digging on Google. Thankfully the fault was a somewhat hidden, misconfigured setting on the Samsung.

It seems that the Samsung expects a TV driving the HDMI input. What I didn't know is that TVs and video devices drive HDMI displays differently than PCs do. TVs use a different colormap than PCs and TVs employ something called "Overscan". What's unexpected, and undocumented by Samsung, is the configuration steps needed to switch one if their HDMI inputs from TV/Video color mapping to PC mapping. As it happens, the way to do this is to label the Samsung's HDMI input "PC" via the configuration menus on the Display. If you do this you get a great Digital PC display! That Samsung decided to bury the switch in the "input label" functionality is not expected and that sin is further compounded by their lack of documentation on the subject. But, that's Samsung's issue and not the fault of this adapter. The overscan issue is something that in the Mac's Display Preferences panel under options.

If you find yourself in a similar situation, poor quality display from computer to a Samsung display via HDMI input, read my Samsung 2333HD review It gives the menu path that set me up.

4 out of 5 stars Works just fine   February 27, 2010
Joe Louis (PETALUMA, CA, US)
It's what you expect from a product like this. Good delivery time, not fancy packaging (you don't pay for the expensive Apple cool wrapping), you plug in into the mini display port, connect your HDMI cable to the adapter, and ready to go.
The color is not Apple-white, but who cares?

It works just fine.

5 out of 5 stars MacBook Pro to HDMI. Late 2009 Mac (new one).   February 25, 2010
P. Stein (Beavercreek, OH)
Did not work initially, so I ordered two more cables I didn't need. With Amazon Prime, you can't cancel.

My problem. Hooked up the mini display to the Macbook Pro. Hooked the HDMI side to a 3 ft. HDMI cable. Hooked the audio cable in.

Only an inch of the page was showing, on the HDTV. Bright purple colors on the rest. Tried resetting everything on the TV and computer. Nothing. Then ordered another type adapter. Then went to comments on other sites.

My problem. The default setting on my laptop was set to scan. To fix. Go to the Apple logo, then system preference, then display, click display, click arrangement, click set mirror image. Worked instantly. I'm surprised no one else had this problem, or mentioned it. Glad someone on another site detailed the fix. Watched cable show, ABC family channel in near perfect 720P HD.

The other cables I ordered were the mini display to DVI, and the Dvi to HDMI. My Vizio actually recommends this set up. I'll try it, but there is little room for improvement.

A word on my setup. I placed the Apple under my Kitchen TV, a 32 inch 720P Vizio. This meant a wireless transmission. Hooked the short HDMI and audio cables in place. I used the Apple wireless keyboard and Logitech V220 wireless mouse, on my kitchen table, to do everything without bending. No cables across floor. Despite wireless transmission on G router, approx 40 ft, just a few seconds of buffering.
